Chocolate Protein Energy Bites are the perfect long-lasting energy-boosting snack! These are quick to make, taste delicious, and are the best power snack!

Chocolate Protein Energy Bites

Snacks are a favorite in this house! For years we have been loving energy bites. Some of our favorite energy bites on my blog are Monster Cookie Energy Bites, Chocolate Energy Bites, and Cranberry Almond Energy Bites. They are such a great snack for many reasons, a few being they are portable, tasty, and energy-boosting. What’s not to love?! Another major plus is that my kids love them! I am happy to report that my kids, who are tough critics, also LOVE this recipe for Chocolate Protein Energy Bites. They loved the chocolate and peanut butter combination. I used a scoop of my favorite chocolate protein powder in these Energy Bites to give us an extra boost of protein.

My kids are obsessed with cookie dough lately but luckily they like these energy bites just as much and they are much healthier! The texture is similar. These chocolate energy bites are chewy and delightfully delicious with a peanut butter-chocolate taste.

Chocolate Protein Energy Bites Amazing Ingredients:

The ingredients are simple and ones I almost always have on hand.

Creamy Peanut Butter- My favorite is Skippy Natural Peanut Butter.

Honey

Vanilla Extract

Chocolate Protein Powder- Protein powder is an easy way to get a lot of protein in your diet. I LOVE the chocolate protein powder from Just Ingredients. It has clean ingredients and is easy on my stomach. Other chocolate protein powder favorites suggested by my friends are Brownie Batter Chocolate Protein Powder from Clean Simple Eats, Dymatize Fudge Brownie, Orgain Creamy Chocolate Fudge, Pure Protein Rich Chocolate, Ideal Lean Chocolate Brownie, True Nutrition Chocolate Fudge Brownie, and Gold Standard Double Rich Chocolate.

Unsweetened Cocoa Powder- I usually like to add 1/2 regular cocoa powder and 1/2 dark chocolate cocoa powder.

Ground Flax Seed

Unsweetened Shredded Coconut- I love the one from Trader Joe’s.

Optional- Chia Seeds

Chopped Dark or Semi-Sweet Chocolate or Chocolate Chips- For this recipe, I used the chocolate chunks from Trader Joe’s and cut them a little smaller. Other times I have made this, I add Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate Chips. If you prefer, you may use milk chocolate. I just am not a fan of it.

Substitution Tips:

If you prefer to make this without protein powder, simply omit it but add about 1/4 cup more oats and 1 tablespoon more ground flaxseed.

To make these nut-free, use sunflower seed butter.

Chocolate Protein Energy Bites

To make these Chocolate Protein Energy Bites, you simply mix everything! You can mix by hand, but it takes a bit of work. I prefer to use my hand mixer, but sometimes I put the ingredients in my Kitchen-Aid mixer and stir it all together. Then you roll or scoop into balls. And that’s it!

Keep it in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to about two weeks. I usually just keep mine in a zip-lock bag and put it where the kids can reach it. You can also freeze these for up to 3 months.

  3. Lacey Hanchiruk says:

Are all 20 124 calories or 1 ball?

    1. I’ve updated the nutrition without the optional ingredients. It is 110 calories per ball. The exact calorie amount though will depend on what brands of ingredients you use, peanut butter will affect the outcome the most.

  4. KHYATI DOSHI says:

Hi can I not use cocoa powder ??

  5. I added a little water because the ingredients were pretty dry. I saw it in another recipe. It worked. Love these energy bites! I got 30 small balls out of mine.

    1. I’m glad that worked for you! I typically add either more honey or peanut butter when it’s dry.

  6. Can I make this without a handheld mixer ?

    1. Yes, it just takes longer to stir by hand. I’ve done it though!

  7. Can I do oat flour instead oats? I like smooth textures 🙂

  8. These are so delicious! I too found the mixture a little dry so I added half a banana per a similar recipe for these balls and it worked out perfect!

  9. Oh my goodness! These are SO delicious! I bought Garden of Life brand whey chocolate protein powder forever ago with the intention of making protein balls, and today was finally the day! I tried to follow the recipe as much as possible since it was the first time trying them, but I did add a small amount of plain hemp protein powder just to use it up, and instead of wheat germ or chia I used one tablespoon of hemp hearts. My partner and I both agreed that we like these better than no bake cookies!
I think next time I’ll try using almond butter and maybe a little less honey and see how they are without the chocolate chips because I think they’re plenty chocolatey and sweet!
Thanks so much for sharing this amazing recipe!

    1. Thank you so much! I appreciate this great review and suggestions!

  10. Regan Takac says:

Can I substitute maple syrup for the honey?

  11. This is a delicious recipe! I added pumpkin seeds and raw cashew pieces so that probably makes it come out a bit dry. However that was easily solved with rubbing a little coconut oil on my hands to roll into balls!

    1. Those are great additions! If needed, you could also try adding a little more honey or peanut butter to help it stick together.

  12. I plan on making these soon. They look so tasty & adjustable with the ingredients I want to use. Thanks for sharing these delicious recipes.

  13. Can i omit the coconut?
