Last Thursday was my husband Derek’s birthday.  For dinner, I surprised him by getting a babysitter for our boys and taking him out to dinner. He didn’t know where we were going. I typed in the address in the GPS and he drove there unsure of where exactly we were going. Well, the GPS took us to Buffalo Wild Wings!  He was so excited. We have been watching them build this restaurant close to our house for the past few months and it just recently opened. It is the only one in Utah and Derek always mentioned how much he’d like to try it.  We really liked it there. It had a fun atmosphere and it was fun trying the different sauces. Our favorite was the spicy garlic sauce.

The next day I ate the few left overs we had and he came home from work and was sad there weren’t any more leftovers, especially the spicy garlic sauce. Oops! I felt really bad so I decided to make it up by making him my amazing Baked Boneless Buffalo Wings with the Buffalo Wild Wings Spicy Garlic Sauce. I was pleased with how simple it was and how good it tasted!

It was spicy though so for those of you like me who can’t handle too much spice I have directions on the bottom of how to make it less spicy.  This recipe is a keeper!  The sauce has a lot of great flavors to it. This amount of sauce is the perfect amount with my Baked Boneless Buffalo Wings . Or you can use it on any wing recipe.

I also served it with my favorite Bleu Cheese Dressing, carrots and celery. It makes it even better!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup buffalo sauce (Frank’s red)
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil (or another neutral oil)
  • ½ tsp. sugar
  • ¾ tsp. garlic powder
  • ¼ tsp. black pepper (ground)
  • ½ tsp cayenne (powder)
  • ¼ tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ egg yolk
  • 1 tsp. water
  • 1 tsp. cornstarch

Instructions

  • In a small sauce pan combine first seven ingredients. Heat over medium heat until sauce begins to boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove pan from heat and allow to cool for 8 minutes.
  • Separate egg whites from egg yolk and put the egg yolk in a small bowl. Using a spoon, cut yolk in half and put in another container. Whisk egg yolk and water together. Add cornstarch and continue to whisk until cornstarch is completely dissolved. Slowly add egg mixture to the hot sauce mixture. Continually whisk to create an emulsion. Put back on the stove and bring to a boil stirring constantly. Once it boils turn heat off. Cover sauce and chill until needed or use right away.

Notes

To make less spicy: Omit cayenne powder and add butter and/or water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach desired heat level.

  1. Hey Justin! I get mine at Walmart but I would think any grocery store would have it.

  2. Thanks Becky for sharing this with us at Fidlin’ Fridays! I will have to get cookin!

  3. Ruthie Stoakes says:

Half an egg yolk…here goes nuthin!

    1. Haha Yeah it’s an interesting amount but it’s perfect for this recipe. Hope you enjoyed it! 🙂

      1. What to do with the egg whites??

        1. There are so many possibilities. I usually just add it to scrambled eggs or a dish I make with eggs. Also, so many baking recipes call for egg whites.

    2. This recipe is great! I make it all the time and use it for our buffalo chicken pizzas. If anyone is worried about using 1/2 egg yolk, just double the recipe. Problem solved, and the sauce keeps for awhile. Love this sauce, thank you!

      1. Yum! Thanks for the suggestion! That’s perfect!

  4. I just made this and it looked great up until it boiled after adding the egg yolk mixture; then it got all clumpy and weird and seperated; what could have caused this?
Also- what is the purpose of the 1/2 egg yolk to begin with; could I just leave it out? Thanks

    1. The sauce likely separated because it boiled after adding the egg yolk—too much heat cooks the egg proteins and causes clumping. The ½ egg yolk acts as an emulsifier to keep the sauce smooth; you could leave it out, but the sauce might be thinner and more likely to separate.

  5. This is a delicious recipe! I will definitely be making this again
