Spiderweb Cookie Cake is a simple and fun idea for Halloween! A very easy to make chocolate chip cookie “cake” decorated with a spiderweb and spiders on top. So much fun to make with kids and to serve at Halloween parties!

Halloween is getting closer and my kids are so excited! It’s one of their favorite holidays and honestly, spiders are their favorite part of Halloween. Last year we stocked up on way too many spider decorations. Because they love spiders so much, I thought they would love this Spiderweb Cookie Cake and I was right!
They thought it was SO cool and were ready to decorate the house in all their spider decorations. We were able to talk them into waiting until October 1st but they were so excited to eat this delicious and fun Spiderweb Cookie Cake and pretend it’s almost Halloween.

This cookie cake is pretty much the most amazing dessert ever! As a family that isn’t into cake very much, I think this will become our go-to recipe for a birthday “cake” for now on. All you do is mix together the cookie dough ingredients, press into a pan, bake and cool and bam it’s ready to enjoy and tastes ridiculously amazing.
The cookie cake is perfectly chewy yet a little crispy on the edges. I took a bite to make sure it was good and might have just taken quite a few more bites because it was oh-so-good! This recipe is absolutely perfect for a Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake. It’s made with all brown sugar and an egg + 1 egg yolk making it extra chewy.
For a fun Halloween spin, I added a spiderweb on top using a small batch of homemade chocolate frosting (and a touch of black food coloring). It was so yummy and looked so cool! I put little spiders on it I got at Hobby Lobby.

Spiderweb Cookie Cake
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup 1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
- 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 and 1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
- *1 cup M&M's (divided (I use the fall colored M&M's))
Chocolate Frosting for Spiderweb
- 1/4 cup butter (softened)
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons cocoa powder
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 Tablespoon heavy cream or milk
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- black food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F Spray a 9-inch pie dish or cake pan with nonstick spray. Set aside.
- In a large bowl using a hand-held mixer or stand mixer fitted with paddle attachment, beat the butter on medium speed until completely smooth and creamy, about 1 minute. Add the brown sugar and beat on medium speed until creamy. Mix in egg, egg yolk, and vanilla on medium-high speed until combined. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed.
- Add in the cornstarch, baking soda and salt and mix until combined. Then mix in the flour. Add in the chocolate chips and *1/2 cup of M&M's and gently fold in.
- Press the cookie dough evenly into the prepared pan. Add the rest of the M&M's on top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the cake is lightly golden brown. (If it begins to brown too much on the edges you may want to cover the cake loosely with aluminum foil.) Remove from the oven and set the pan on a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, use a sharp knife or metal spatula to loosen the sides of the cookie cake from the pan and transfer to a serving dish. (Or use can serve directly from the pan.)
Chocolate Frosting for Spiderweb
- In a medium mixing bowl, stir together the butter and cocoa powder until smooth. Then add in the powdered sugar. Mix together then add in the heavy cream or milk and vanilla. Once smooth add enough black food coloring to get desired black color. Pipe on chocolate frosting as a spiderweb using either a piping bag or ziplock bag with a small corner snipped,. Top with plastic spiders. Remove before serving. Slice and enjoy!
- Cookie cake remains fresh covered tightly at room temperature for up to 3 days.
