Homemade Peppermint Lip Balm with TWO FREE printable labels!

DIY lip balm is so much fun! I’ve been making it for a few months now and am excited to share with you all how to do it. Making your own lip balm is not as hard as it may seem and in the end, it will save you money. It also makes a fabulous gift idea, especially with my two free printables!
My amazing friend Emily once again came up with amazing designs for me. (Click here to see the gift tags she made.)
One set of labels says, “Peppermint Lip Balm” like you see in the above picture and the other…

“Peace, Love, Happiness, and Kindness.” I thought it would be a great way to spread joy around this holiday season and throughout the year. I love how it all turned out!

How to Make Homemade Lip Balm:
Items needed:
Pipette or Dropper
and/or
Peace, Love, Happiness, and Kindness Labels
The beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil will moisturize your lips and leave them feeling soft and smooth!
The peppermint is a light scent and not overwhelming. You can also decide how many drops you would like to add.
Directions:
Simply melt together the beeswax and coconut oil then the shea butter. Remove from heat and add in the desired amount of peppermint oil. Then carefully fill the lip balm tubes. Let cool, add labels and you’re done!
The initial cost adds up but I promise in the end it’s worth it! This makes for a great gift, lip balm for yourself and a fun activity to do with kids.

Homemade Peppermint Lip Balm
Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons Beeswax Pellets
- 2 Tablespoons Organic Coconut Oil
- 2 Tablespoons Organic Shea Butter
- 10-15 drops peppermint essential oil (depends how strong you want it to be)
Instructions
- In a double boiler over medium heat, melt together the beeswax pellets and coconut oil, stirring until smooth. Add the shea butter and stir until melted and smooth. Remove from the stove top but keep the boiler over the hot water to keep the mixture liquid.
- Add in the drops of essential oil and stir.
- Use a dropper to fill the empty chapstick containers. Let cool for a few hours before putting the cap back on.
- Add the labels.
- Enjoy soft lips!
Notes
Tip: Add around 10 drops of peppermint essential oil and test on your skin or lips (being careful with the hot liquid) to see how many more drops you might like to add.

Thank you so much! 🙂 I’ve given a few for gifts so far and it feels extra special since I made the lip balm myself!
How many lip balms does the printable recipe make?
You can make about 12 lip balms from the recipe. The printable labels will give you 16 labels.
I got 17 tubes out of it 🙂
Would this recipe work if putting in little metal tins?
I think it should work just fine.
This was an easy fun DIY to do with my 11yr daughter. The recipe made 17 tubes and works wonders on all of our lips
I’m so glad you enjoyed this DIY with your daughter! It’s such a fun activity!
Pls how and where can I get the ingredients
If you look in this post where it says, “How to Make Lip Balm” I have links for everything you need.
How many drops of peppermint essential oil you added to your mixture?
Around 10-15 drops
Question about the recipe. If I adjust the shea butter, could I make it softer & longer lasting? Reducing coconut oil make it too hard. Thanks for your time.
Shea butter will make the balm softer and creamier, while beeswax makes it firmer and helps it stay on the lips longer. If you want it softer, try increasing the shea butter a little. If you want more staying power, add a bit more beeswax. Small adjustments can make a big difference, so I’d recommend testing a small batch first!
