Airplane Birthday Party

Fun and simple ideas to create the perfect Airplane Birthday Party! Ideas for invitations, airplane cupcakes and more!

Airplane Birthday PartyMy adorable little guy turned 2! So maybe it was almost 2 months ago but I am excited to share his party with you. Asher loves airplanes. Before winter came around his favorite part of being outside was seeing the planes fly by. We live fairly close to the airport so the planes fly a little lower here. As the planes fly by he always would stop what he is doing and say, “Planes!” and point to the sky. So adorable! So I decided it would be perfect to do an airplane themed birthday for him. I knew he would love it and he did!

I am not one to do anything fancy especially birthday parties. I kept it simple but fun and it was perfect.

Invitations:

Airplane Birthday Party InvitationI made the invitation using PicMonkey. It was super simple. For the clouds I used the comic bubbles, (in the overlay section) the one that looks like a cloud and used the eraser to erase the two small dots. I added the text then the airplane using this clipart. I used Microsoft Publisher to add the plane but I think you can do it using PicMonkey too.

Cupcakes:

I love how the cupcakes turned out! I searched the internet for ideas but couldn’t find what I was looking for so like the cool baker I am I did my own thing.

Airplane Cupcake ToppersTo make the airplane toppers I printed a sheet of airplane outlines using this outline. Then I covered it with a sheet of wax paper.

I melted dark blue candy melts and used my squeeze bottle to trace the outline with the melted candy melts. Once it sets up you can gently take it off. Be sure to make extra incase some break. I found it helpful to place the sheet of candy airplane outlines in the freezer for 5 minutes before taking them off to make them firm. (Hint: Place a cookie sheet under the paper with the airplane outlines before you get started with outlining the airplanes.)

For the cupcakes and frosting I followed this recipe just changing the color of frosting of course. Reserve 1 cup of frosting for the clouds before adding the blue food coloring. Once the cupcakes are frosted with the blue, use a piping bag fitted with a big round tip to create the clouds. (You could also use a zip lock bag and cut a tiny bit off the corner to use like a piping bag.)

Airplane CupcakesAfter piping on the clouds gently press the airplanes on top. Aren’t these cupcakes the cutest!?!

Decorations:

To decorate the table, I lined it with a blue tablecloth, and decorated it with the cupcakes, my birthday sign and scattered on paper airplanes I cut out with my Silhouette using this outline.

Again, using my Silhouette I cut out 2 big airplanes (using this outline) then freehand, I cut out the rest of the sign. I am not good at freehand cutting but I think it turned out well! I also used my Silhouette to cut out the words, Asher is Two.

Airplane Birthday Party To make the cups a little more festive I added the number 2 using white vinyl. (The font is Janda Manatee Solid.)

We also had appetizers at the party.

Here’s the complete set up! Simple, cute and fun.

Despite his face, Asher had a lot of fun! (He had just woken up from his nap after a fun morning at the Children’s Museum.)

It was such a fun and simple party. Let me know if you have any questions!
