Halloween Chocolate Chip Cookies

How cute are these Halloween cookies?! My kids LOVE my recipe for Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies. I make it at least once a month for them. When I was making my recipe for Healthier Halloween Monster Cookies I decided it’d be fun to also add sprinkles and candy eyes to Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Easy, simple, fun, and tasty! You can’t get better than that for a Halloween cookie.

Halloween Sprinkles

Where to buy Halloween Sprinkle and Candy Eyes?

Amazon sells Halloween sprinkles, or Walmart, Target, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Etsy etc. You can also just buy plain colors of sprinkles and mix and match to get your perfect mix!

I couldn’t find candy eyes at Walmart this year (2020!) but I’ve seen them before at Hobby Lobby. I ended up buying mine on Amazon.

Tips and Tricks:

Follow the recipe and your cookies should turn out great! I have been making this chocolate chip cookie recipe for years and it’s loved by many!

Add the sprinkles right after the cookie dough is scooped into balls. Since it is at room temperature the sprinkles will stay the best. I also like to add a few more chocolate chips at this point.

I recommend chilling the dough for two hours. It improves the texture and helps it not to spread too much.

I add the candy eyes in the middle of baking the cookies. That way I can place them just where I want them and there is no worry of them melting. I like to add some more chocolate chips too.

Don’t overbake the cookies. It won’t look 100% finished once 8-10 minutes is up but once it gets golden brown it’s done and will finish setting as it cools.

Here are more cookies I made with different sprinkles. The options are endless!

And whether it’s Halloween or not, this chocolate chip cookie is one to keep forever! You switch up the colors of sprinkles throughout the year or just enjoy a classic Chocolate Chip Cookie!

Happy Halloween!

Enjoy!

Halloween Chocolate Chip Cookies
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 10 minutes
Additional Time 2 hours
Total Time 2 hours 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter (1 ½ sticks), softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Halloween Sprinkles
  • Candy Eyes

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream butter and brown and granulated sugar together on medium speed, beating until light and fluffy about 3 minutes. Add in egg and vanilla and mix until incorporated on low speed. Turn the mixer up to medium-high and mix for 1 minute.
  2. Scrape down the sides of the bowl if needed. Add the cornstarch, baking soda, and salt. Mix for 30 seconds then add the flour 1 cup at a time. Mix until fully incorporated.
  3. Add the chocolate chips and either beat for a few seconds on low speed or fold in by hand.
  4. Scoop about 2 tablespoons of the dough into balls. Add the Halloween sprinkles to a small bowl and holding the bottom of the dough ball press the top of the dough ball into the sprinkles. If needed, press more sprinkles into the dough. Top with more chocolate chips if desired. Cover with plastic wrap and chill the dough for 2 hours in the fridge.
  5. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 F. Place cookie dough on baking sheets lined with parchment paper, spaced 2 inches apart. Bake for 5 minutes, remove from oven and top with the desired amount of candy eyes. Then place back in the oven and bake for another 3 to 5 minutes. (8-10 minutes total) Don't over bake, the cookies will set up as they cool.
  6. Remove from oven, let cool on baking sheet for 5-10 minutes, and then transfer to a wire rack to finish cooling. (Store in an airtight container.)

Notes

If you don't have time to chill the dough, add 2 tablespoons more of all-purpose flour. Or you can speed up the chilling process by placing the dough balls in the freezer for around 20 minutes.
