Jack-O'-Lantern Cupcakes

Welcome to the Halloween Party Blog Hop! Along with 6 other bloggers I am sharing fun ideas for a fabulous Halloween party! All of their links are on the bottom of this post.

I created these Build Your Own Jack-O’-Lantern Cupcakes for a fun dessert that is also an activity for a Halloween party. It’s so fun to customize these cupcakes however you’d like!

Build Your Own Jack-O-Latern Cupcakes (1)Not only are these cupcakes delicious they are so simple to prepare.  I just used a chocolate cake mix and doctored it up using Tidy Mom’s Perfect Cupcake recipes. You won’t believe how with such little effort you can change the taste of a cake mix from average to amazing! I loved how it changed the texture from a typical cake mix taste to a homemade taste. These were amazing!  Then to add to the flavor you have an easy and delicious homemade buttercream frosting and any candy you choose to use to create your own Jack-O’-Lantern face!

Build Your Own Jack-O-Latern Cupcakes (2)Just set out the cupcakes, orange buttercream frosting and any candy you choose to use and let the kids get creative!

I had lots of fun creating these cupcakes along with my 2 little guys! I hope you have a super fun Halloween party!

Build Your Own Jack-O’-Lantern Cupcakes

*24 cupcakes, baked and cooled

Vanilla Buttercream Frosting:

2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
2 tsp. vanilla extract
pinch of salt
4-5 cups powdered sugar
orange food coloring

Directions:

Beat the butter at medium-high speed until smooth, 1-2 minutes. Add in the vanilla extract and pinch of salt. Beat mixture at medium-high speed to combine, about 15 seconds.

Slowly add powdered sugar until desired consistency is reached. If too thick, add milk. (1-2 Tbsp.) Add orange food coloring a few drops at a time until desired color is reached.

Jack-O’-Lantern Decorations:

M&M’s, regular or mini
Chocolate Chips, regular or mini
Sprinkles, varied colors
Other candies etc.

To assemble Jack-O’-Lantern Cupcakes:

Let each person decorate cupcakes as desired. Use butter knifes to evenly spread on frosting. And decorate cupcakes as desired to make creative Jack-O’-Lantern cupcakes!

*I used TidyMom’s Perfect Cupcake Recipe.

What I love the most about this recipe is that it celebrates the kid in all of us. Decorating these cupcakes would be a great activity at a child’s Halloween party. Like you show in your images above, put out all of the toppings and let them go! –Deb (DialMforMoms)
