Garlic Texas Toast

Mmm! Texas Toast! I love Texas Toast. It’s thick and chewy and with the garlic bread topping it takes it to beyond delicious! I love to have this along with Lasagna or pasta. I’m sure you’ve seen the boxes of garlic Texas Toast sold in the freezer section. I never buy it but my mom had it for us for dinner a while ago. It was really good but way too buttery and I couldn’t believe all the strange ingredients when I read the labels. So I decided I would make my own!

I couldn’t find a recipe I liked so I did my own thing. I bought a loaf of Texas Toast and topped it with a mixture of butter, minced garlic, parsley and salt and pepper. It was so quick to put together. And the topping is delicious.

To freeze the toast you place them on a baking sheet and freeze them for about 20 minutes.

Then you put them inside a labeled freezer zip-lock bag. It’s that easy! We are loving having this ready to go whenever we want it. I’ve warmed it up in the oven, toaster oven and on the stove-top and all ways are delicious! I’m loving this!

Garlic Texas Toast
Love to be in the Kitchen Original Recipe
Ingredients:
2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
2 tsp. dried parsley
4-5 cloves of garlic, minced (or 1 Tbsp. garlic powder)
1 tsp. kosher salt
1/2 tsp. ground pepper
1 loaf of Texas Toast (16-17 pieces)

Directions:
In a small mixing bowl, mix together the softened butter, parsley, minced garlic, salt & pepper until smooth. (Optional: Add 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese.) Lightly spread the butter mixture on one side of all the bread.

To Freeze:
Place bread on a cookie sheet, butter side up, and place in freezer for about 20 minutes. Remove from freezer and place in a labeled freezer zip-lock bag.

To Heat:
(If you don’t freeze the bread cut 1-2 minutes off of cooking time.)
Oven:
Preheat oven to 375 F. Lay slices butter side up on a baking pan.  Bake 5-6 minutes or until golden brown.

Toaster Oven:
Do not preheat. Lay slices on baking pan butter side up and place in oven. Turn oven on to 400 F.  Bake 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.

Stove Top:
Lay slices butter side down on pan over medium heat. Cook 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.

I just made these since I had a loaf of Texas Toast I ended up not using for something else. They were so easy and we loved them! It will be great to have plenty on hand in the freezer.

April- Mine never last more than a month! I’m pretty sure 3 months is about right to answer your question.

This looks yummy but I would definitely choose a healthier bread. That bread, just like most other grocery store breads, probably has just as many or more “strange ingredients” in it as the freezer Texas toast.
