Pizza Sauce

October 18, 2011 by becky 2 Comments

Sunday was my birthday and it was a very fun day!  I loved having my birthday on Sunday because that meant I got to spend all day with family.  Derek is super awesome and made it a fabulous birthday.  Levi helped him decorate the house with balloons and other decorations while I was showering and getting ready for the day.  And Derek is also super awesome because he knows me so well and he got me some awesome presents from Bed, Bath and Beyond. I LOVE that store!  One of the presents was a pizza stone! I was so excited about it I made pizza for dinner on Monday.  We also had the last of our tomatoes and green peppers from our garden so I used the rest of those as well.

I love making homemade pizza and I’ve recently discovered how easy (and cheap!) it is to make my own pizza sauce.  The last time I made pizza I made 2 pizza sauces to see what kind we liked better.  And this one was the winner!  We both liked it way better and I was glad too because it was so simple to make!  All you need is a small can of tomato paste, water and spices. There are a lot of spices in it but I would assume most of you have these on hand since they are basic ones.

Pizza Sauce
Slightly adapted from Our Best Bites
Ingredients
1, 6 oz. can tomato paste
6 oz. water (just use the empty tomato paste can)
2 tablespoons powdered parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
3/4 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1/2 tsp. oregano
1/2 tsp. basil
1/2 tsp. parsley
1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes (optional)
Directions

Empty tomato paste into a bowl and add water a few tablespoons at a time, stirring constantly until combined.  Add remaining ingredients, stir to combine, and allow to stand until ready to use. Covers two average-sized pizzas; freezes extremely well.
