How to Make an Ice Cream Shake without a Good Blender

August 5, 2011 by becky 2 Comments

For those of you like me who have a blender that hardly blends and if you have an electric stand mixer here is a solution for you!  When my husband and I were first married we tried making shakes in our blender and it was a joke. Nothing happened. It didn’t even try to blend it. So we decided to mix it up in our kitchen aid mixer and it worked so well!  It was a yummy smooth shake and mixing it up this way made it light and fluffy and I love that.  Every summer we have Derek’s younger siblings over for a sleepover and making ice cream shakes is now a fun tradition of ours.

First you put the desired amount of ice cream in the bowl and use the paddle attachment. Turn it on low until the ice cream softens up a bit.  Then slowly add milk.  You can decide how much milk to add depending on the consistency you want of your shake. Once the milk and ice cream are well incorporated turn the mixer up to medium high until it is smooth.

Also- do you have any suggestions on a good blender to buy? Thanks!
