How to Freeze Strawberries

May 3, 2011 by becky 3 Comments

Hey! I’m back!  I am now officially living in my very own house!  It is great.  But it has been crazy moving in and trying to put all our boxes away and put together new furniture.  My son has been missing his best friend Chloe dog.  But he is doing better now.  And I am finally back in the kitchen!  I’m excited to share more fantastic recipes and tips with you.
I was shopping at Walmart the other day and I saw strawberries on sale for $.98! Wow!  That’s the lowest I have ever seen.  So I bought quite a few…  Last year I also had bought a lot of strawberries and knew we couldn’t eat them all before they would go bad.  My friend Bethany suggested I freeze them. Oh, what an idea!  So simple but I never would have thought of it. It is so easy.  You can freeze them either whole or sliced.  I like to freeze mine sliced because I usually use them for smoothies or want to dice them up.
How to Freeze Strawberries:
-Place strawberries in a strainer and wash with cold water.  Pat dry.
-Remove stems and leaves with a small sharp knife.
-Slice berries if desired.
-Place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper or parchment paper.
-Place in freezer until completely frozen.
How to Freeze Strawberries
-Remove from freezer and place in a freezer bag that is labeled with the date.
-Remove as much air as possible.
-Place in freezer.
-That’s it!

We dehydrate our strawberries because we love to have them on cereal in the winter when you can’t find fresh fruit. Just another idea if you find more cheap strawberries 🙂

    That’s a great idea but I don’t have a dehydrater. Maybe one day…
