Guacamole is so easy to make I’m not sure why so many people buy it. I was reading an article on yahoo.com the other day saying a certain brand of guacamole only had 2% avocado. That’s ridiculous. My point is, it’s easy to make and quite inexpensive and it tastes really good! Plus avocados are really good for you. You can read more on why they are so amazing here. Here is a recipe from the amazing Alton Brown I made the other day. I didn’t use onions in it because I don’t like raw onions so you can decide if you want them or not.
Guacamole
Recipe from Alton Brown
Ingredients
3 Haas avocados, halved, seeded and peeled
1 lime, juiced (or use lemon juice if you don’t have a lime)
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon cayenne
1/2 medium onion, diced (I didn’t use this)
2 Roma tomatoes, seeded and diced
1 tablespoon chopped cilantro
1 clove garlic, minced
Directions
In a large bowl place the scooped avocado pulp and lime juice, toss to coat. Drain, and reserve the lime juice, after all of the avocados have been coated. Using a potato masher add the salt, cumin, and cayenne and mash. Then, fold in the onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and garlic. Add 1 tablespoon of the reserved lime juice. Let sit at room temperature for 1 hour and then serve.
I love homemade guacamole. Next time I will use this recipe. I just bought cumin, and now I have something to make with it!
